Isaac’s Fundraising Story

Superstar Isaac, aged 14, is taking part in Every Day in May for Dravet this year.

We asked Isaac to share why he’s tackling this incredible challenge for Dravet Syndrome UK.

“My cousin, Etta, lives with Dravet Syndrome but she doesn’t let it stop her from doing anything. She likes playing football and catch with us and at first I was worried in case she hurt herself playing, but she never stops smiling and nothing holds her back. She’s my inspiration!

I was looking for ideas for the volunteering section of my bronze Duke of Edinburgh award that I’m doing at school. My mum suggested looking at the Dravet Syndrome UK website for fundraising ideas and we came across the Every Day in May challenge. I signed up straight away because I like keeping fit. I’m proud to be raising money for Dravet Syndrome UK as the charity is very important to my family. It’s great to know that the fundraising will go towards supporting Etta and other families who live with Dravet Syndrome.

I’ve signed up to do it on my own and I’m planning to run 5K each day. I won’t be lonely though as some of my friends have said they want to join me on a run and my dad wants to run too because he’s training for a half marathon.

Training has consisted of running with my dad, and I play football, so I’m feeling confident I can manage to complete all of the kilometres by foot.

My goal was to raise £500 and I’ve already smashed the target! I’ve made posters, which my mum and dad have displayed at their workplaces. I’ve shared my Justgiving page link with family and friends, and my mum shared it on Facebook and the WhatsApp group for my football team.

I’ve been surprised at how much I’ve raised so quickly – it’s amazing that people have been so generous. I’ll keep pushing on to see how much I can raise in total!”

You are so inspirational, Isaac! You’ve got this. A huge Dravet Syndrome UK THANK YOU for choosing to fundraise by taking on this incredible challenge and to everyone who has donated.
